Introducing the Center for The Empowerment Dynamic
We are taking a pause from our usual weekly blog so we can share some really great news that we are over-the-top excited about.
It’s been more than 15 years, four websites, three books, hundreds of workshops, and webinars that brings us to today and the announcement of the new Center for The Empowerment Dynamic!
The path to the Center actually began several decades ago with a personal epiphany that David experienced. He had learned about the Karpman Drama Triangle and its roles of Victim, Persecutor, and Rescuer, while working through some personal issues with a psychologist. He yearned to escape the drama present in his life at the time and, in a morning of contemplation he asked “the God of his understanding” what the opposite of Victim was.
The answer that came in a flash of insight was “the opposite of Victim is Creator.” It took him by complete surprise. And, like a seedling lying dormant in the winter soil, it would take time for the implications of the incident to sprout.
Over many years, David would occasionally ponder alternatives to the Persecutor and Rescuers drama role, while other times the consideration of more positive substitutes remained undeveloped for long periods of time.
Until the summer of 2003.
Having met Donna and moving to the Pacific Northwest of the U.S., he came across a journal in which, years earlier, he had played around with a replacement set of roles to the drama triangle.
Shortly thereafter, he shared with Donna that version of the “alternative triangle,” which evolved into the TED* (*The Empowerment Dynamic)® framework and its affirmative roles of Creator, Challenger, and Coach.
Encouraged by Donna, and from enthusiastic responses he received when sharing TED* with friends and colleagues, David wrote and self-published in late 2005, The Power of TED* (The Empowerment Dynamic) as a fable on self-leadership. A new TED* website was launched soon after.
At the time, David and Donna had no idea how much this little book would make such a big impact in the lives of so many—at home, at work, and in many of their most important relationships.
TED* spread very organically between individuals searching for an “escape” from the dramas of everyday life and also found its way into organizations—large and small—as a set of leadership and culture-building ways of thinking, relating to others, and taking action.
By 2010, David and Donna began offering a 2-day “Deeper Dive” into the frameworks, as TED* continued to grow, develop, and spread internationally. Donna, as a Master Certified Coach, began offering very successful online webinars for coaches, psychologists, and human development professionals.
As the work matured and more organizations and teams clamored for further applications of TED* in the workplace, David returned to his leadership and organization development roots and reframed TED* into the 3 Vital Questions® methodology for “transforming workplace drama.”
In March 2019, 3 Vital Questions: Transforming Workplace Drama was published as a teaching story that applied the concepts of TED* in an organizational context of the costs of drama, the challenge of change, and employee engagement.
With the introduction of 3VQ, an additional website was created; a certification for professionals who wanted to teach the frameworks was offered; and the 3VQ Certified Trainer Community of Practice took off. It is now a growing and dynamic international network of trainers, coaches, and consultants.
In the same period following the publication of 3VQ, Donna evolved her application of TED* and 3VQ to professional coaches with a new course entitled “Transform Drama to Design Your Dreams.”
The enthusiastic response to the coaching course encouraged Donna to write Who Do You Want to Be on the Way to What You Want?: Coaching with The Empowerment Dynamic, which will be released March 3rd! (More on the launch of her book in future blog posts.)
As David and Donna considered the implication of her book and whether to add a third website to TED* and 3VQ, they realized in a unifying (if not a “duh!”) moment that all their work for individuals, professionals, and organizations revolved around The Empowerment Dynamic.
And thus, the Center for The Empowerment Dynamic was birthed!
As David and Donna live into the twilight of their professional lives, the diverse and powerful community of 3VQ Certified Trainers and ever-evolving useful offerings of the Center for The Empowerment Dynamic assures that TED* will be helping people to thrive for generations to come.
With deep gratitude, we welcome you to our new website and the official launch of the Center for The Empowerment Dynamic.
